The Post Con Blues

Going to an event like Star Wars Celebration is a whirlwind of emotions to say the least! From the moment I knew I would be going in August of 2013 it was a steady crescendo of excitement until April 2015. Four days of solid Star Wars content was a dream come true and being in that bubble of pure happiness was unlike anything I’ve experienced before.

And then it ended.

I’ve experienced the “post con blues” before, but never to this extent. Being the analytical person I am, I thought it would be interesting to document my feelings over the last week, you know, in the name of science.

During the con itself, it was overwhelming at times, but the adrenaline rush and some timely caffeine fixes got me through til the end. But by Sunday I could feel a sore throat coming on (the notorious “con crud”) and was actually feeling relief that the con we be over soon. That night I crashed, and woke up feeling much better. I thought I had beat the cold and got to spend some time at the beach. Life was good.

The next day, however, was another story. I woke up feeling awful which was unfortunate because it was the day I had to travel home. I made it back to Phoenix Tuesday night and crashed once again. Then, with me being sick and having my first day back at work on Wednesday, it was kind of a blur, but emotionally I was still on a high from Celebration.

Thursday I woke up feeling a lot better and more settled into my life and that’s when I felt post con blues really kick in. I was suddenly aware that my stark reality did not include people dressed in awesome costumes, Star Wars music constantly playing in the background and R2-D2s as far as the eye could see. While I tried hard to remember the happy times there was a deep sadness that was hard to shake.

That brings us to today, Friday. I woke up feeling so much better. My con crud is gone, my emotions have stabilized and I’m finding great joy from going through my pics, putting together some pieces for the podcast and reminiscing about Celebration on Twitter.

It’s been an incredible ride and I would gladly do it again!

Star Wars Celebration – Personal Log | April 17, 2015

After a refreshing night of sleep I headed off for day two of Star Wars Celebration. The morning included me wandering the sales floor, visiting the Art Show and viewing the special The Force Awakens exhibit which was amazing! If you’d like to hear my audio tour of this listen to episode 29 of Who Wars!

Next it was the Carrie Fisher panel. James Arnold Taylor was a charming host as he tried to keep Ms. Fisher’s panel family friendly. Despite growing up immersed in Hollywood Carrie has a very genuine and hilarious quality to her. She also has an adorable dog named Gary!

After that I headed over to the podcasting stage for the Skywalking Through Neverland show. That was a very fun, high energy show and it was fun to meet the rest of the #teamhoojib team!

I finished off the day with very educational panels: Star Wars Hot Wheels Design 101 and Bringing Star Wars Novels to Life with Audio. There I got to be in a Yoda contest and meet Kyle Newman!

I would’ve liked to watch the viewing of episode four but the line was crazy long so I opted to turn in early for the night.

Another awesome day filled to the brim with Star Wars!

Star Wars Celebration – Personal Log | April 16, 2015

I came back to my hotel last night night way too exhausted to write about my day. I literally fell asleep trying to watch the new teaser one more time. That’s how tired I was. But I woke up refreshed and pumped to take on another day at #SWCA. But before I do that, here’s a recap of yesterday.

We ended up leaving Phoenix about 1 am on Thursday and I only slept for about 1 hour in the car. Yep. I went all day yesterday, with just one hour of sleep! Oh, the sacrifices we make for Star Wars! But it was totally worth it!

After some major LA morning traffic we pulled into Anaheim about 8 am. Then I went to pick up my media badge and wait in line for the JJ Abrams/Kathleen Kennedy panel. After waiting for what seemed like forever, I finally got my wrist band for one of the simulcast rooms and was seated shortly. That panel was nothing short of spectacular! Highlights for me were seeing the new and old cast members, having BB-8 roll on stage, and of course, that incredible trailer! This was an amazing start for Star Wars Celebration.

I went on to attend The Coffee With Kenobi podcast, panels including: the Music of the Empire Strikes Back, the untold Clone Wars, and the History of R2-D2, I briefly hit the sales floor, and finally watched The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones in 3d.

The atmosphere here is amazing! Star Wars fans are fantastic and there’s a definite camaraderie in the air.  It’s been so cool to meet new people and some of my Twitter followers!

I’m looking forward to more great people, costumes, and panels. I’m sure I’ll keep tweeting like a maniac so that should be fun! Oh yeah. I’m also an ewok today, so there’s that!

May the force be with you!

Star Wars Celebration – Personal Log | April 15, 2015

After months and months (well, years actually) of anticipation it’s finally the day I leave for Star Wars Celebration!!! It’s hard to find the words to express the emotions I’m feeling and I don’t know if the full impact will even hit me until I’m staring at the Anaheim Convention Center.

I’ve wanted to go to a celebration since the very first one and now that it’s almost here I’m so excited I can hardly stand it! Being completely immersed in Star Wars for 4 days is going to be surreal! Tomorrow I am most excited for new The Force Awakens content. A trailer is pretty much guaranteed but I have a feeling there’ll be a few more surprises…

If you’re at SWCA be sure to say hi and if you’re not, be sure to stream it on starwars.com!!! And either way be sure to keep checking my Twitter and here for live updates!

Kate’s Craft Corner: Star Wars Celebration Bookmarks

I’ve been busy making these cute bookmarks to give people at Star Wars Celebration. The supplies I used are:

  • blue cardstock
  • stickers from Hallmark
  • black and silver Sharpies,
  • a hole punch
  • ribbon

They were really fun to make and each one features a different Star Wars quote on the back! If you see me there, be sure to ask for one!
