BB-8 Painting

One of the things I was able to accomplish over the weekend was to paint! This is exciting because 1) I haven’t gotten my paints out in quite some time and 2) I painted BB-8! (On the off-chance that you don’t know who this BB-8 I speak of is, he’s one of the droids in the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens.)

I thought it would be interesting to document this in its various stages.

Stage One – Rough Sketch

Stage Two – Basic Color Blocking

Stage Three: Fine Tuning and Details

So, there you have it! I’m pretty pleased with the results and think I might have to do a droid series with R2-D2 and Chopper!

Kate’s Craft Corner – Tardis Bottle

The final product.
The final product.

When you’re a Whovian you always seem to notice things that are “Tardis Blue”. So when I noticed the beautiful blue color of the Skyy Vodka bottle, I knew right away that it would make an awesome Tardis bottle. After emptying the bottle*, I stripped the stickers off with rubbing alcohol, got some paint markers at the craft store, and carefully painted the iconic details onto the bottle and voila! A beautiful Tardis bottle that would actually make a wonderful vase for some blue roses! 🙂

*Please drink responsibly and if you are a youngling please have an adult procure the bottle for you.

5 Reasons You Should Get Into Comics

IMG_4250

Do you enjoy the comic book culture but hesitate to delve completely into the world of comics?

With the release of the Marvel Star Wars #1 it’s a great time to jump right in. If you’re still on the fence, consider these 5 reasons comics should be a staple for any geek.

(1) They’re Fun

Comics are a lot of fun. They’re fun to buy, fun to collect, and fun to read. Life can be hard and comics are a great escape into a world of whimsy and adventure.

(2) Fantastic Art

Comics feature some of today’s best artists. As you collect more comics you’ll learn to recognize each artist’s particular style and come to appreciate the vast array of artistic talent out there.

(3) New Stories

The Marvel Star Wars stories are canon, so enjoy these new adventures with confidence that they actually happened in the Star Wars universe. But whether the series you’re reading is canon or not, you’re getting new stories with your favorite characters. Pretty cool.

(4) They’re Cheap

Most basic comics run for about $4-$5. That’s cheaper than going to a movie and you’ll have something tangible to go back to in the future. It’s also cheaper than a lot of other things geeks like to collect, such as action figures, games and books etc.

(5) Peer Pressure

All the cool kids are doing it. Don’t be left behind. Go out and get Marvel Star Wars #1 and while you’re at it, issue #2 comes out tomorrow, so grab them both!
